This beautifully weathered cream-painted sideboard originates from Qinghai province and dates to the 19th century. Traditionally used by nomadic communities, cabinets of this type served multiple roles, including the storage of clothing, bedding, and grain, as well as functioning as altar cabinets for family ancestor worship.
The soft cream surface has developed a gentle patina over time, enhancing the cabinet’s sculptural form and hand-crafted character. The doors are decorated with delicately painted scenes depicting vases filled with floral arrangements alongside symbolic wise objects, reflecting traditional Chinese values of learning and refinement.
Originally designed as a top-opening storage chest, this piece has been sensitively modified with front-opening doors to make it more practical for modern use. The interior is divided into three compartments, each fitted with removable shelves, offering flexible storage options.
