This lovely low teak chair is from the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan and is called a pidha chair. These were low chairs with backrests and traditionally were given to Indian brides on their wedding day.  They are most commonly found in tribal settings in Northern India and were used daily by all family members.

This example has been carved in the traditional chip carved style. It features peacocks flanking a central stylised sun and geometric patterns.

The strung seat has been recently replaced.
