Painted Sideboard From Qinghai - Early 20th Century

This early 20th-century painted sideboard originates from Qinghai Province in western China and retains its original painted surface. Pieces from this region are often characterised by their softer palette and restrained decoration, reflecting both local taste and the influence of neighbouring provinces. The form is simple and well balanced, designed primarily for domestic storage.

The frame is finished in a delicate, time-worn blue, while the doors are painted a soft, faded yellow. Across the doors are lightly rendered landscape scenes depicting forested settings, now gently softened through age and use. The subtle contrast between the blue frame and yellow panels gives the piece a calm, harmonious presence, with the original paintwork offering a strong sense of authenticity and regional character.

The sideboard opens to reveal an interior fitted with removable shelving, allowing for flexible storage.
