These antique Chinese chairs are called 'meigui yi' or book chairs. Book chairs were unusual for Chinese chairs as they were the only style of Chinese chair made in larger sets. 


These chairs are constructed from red elm (jumu) wood. The seat height of 50cm is perfect for a high desk or the end of a dining table. It could also be used in place of a side table to create drama  and different levels in a room.
