Description

This small green yaobian glaze flower vase is handmade in Jingdezhen, China, using traditional ceramic techniques. Its elegant pear-shaped body rises to a slender neck and gently flared rim, creating a simple, graceful form particularly suited to displaying a few stems or a single flower.

The vase is decorated with a wonderfully rich green copper yaobian glaze, combining layers of turquoise, teal and deep blue with flashes of warm reddish-brown. A fine network of crackling runs across the surface, while mottling and small glaze variations create the depth and texture characteristic of this distinctive firing technique.

Yaobian, meaning "kiln transformation", describes the unpredictable changes that take place within the kiln as the glaze responds to variations in heat and atmosphere. As a result, each vase develops its own individual combination of colours, markings and surface effects, making every piece unique.

All our reproduction Chinese porcelain is made in Jingdezhen, one of China's most important centres of ceramic production for over a thousand years. The city became particularly celebrated for its imperial kilns during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and its long tradition of specialist ceramic craftsmanship continues today.
