This incredibly unusual Chinese gilt black lacquer cabinet is one of very few examples of a full size cabinet made for export to Britain. Whilst smaller tabletop cabinets and sino-regency furniture was more commonly made for export to Europe during the early 19th century, the hybrid of chinoiserie & traditional Chinese furniture was rare.

The pair of doors would have always been simple black lacquer, but the drawers and interior of the cabinet are decorated with geometric and foliate patterns. The Chinese auspicious symbol of the bat is also prominent.
