Bronze Seated Buddha - Bhumisparsha Mudra

This impressive bronze seated Buddha is a high-quality reproduction, finely cast and finished with a deliberately aged surface that gives the piece the character and appearance of an older devotional bronze. The Buddha is seated in meditation upon a double lotus throne.

The Buddha is depicted performing the Bhumisparsha mudra, one of the most important and recognisable gestures in Buddhist iconography. Bhumisparsha translates as “touching the earth” and refers to the moment of the Buddha’s enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree. His right hand reaches over the knee with the fingers pointing towards the ground, calling upon the earth to bear witness to his enlightenment, while his left hand rests in his lap in meditation.
