This striking 19th century carved cedar door panel from Kullu in the Himalayan region of North India is a powerful example of tribal architectural craftsmanship. Composed of fifteen individually carved panels, it features a rich combination of stylised animals and geometric mandala motifs, each framed within intricately carved borders. The deep relief carving and rhythmic grid-like composition give the piece a strong visual presence, while the aged cedar has developed a dark, timeworn patina that enhances its character and authenticity.

Originally part of a traditional village home, panels such as this would have served both a functional and symbolic role, with the carved motifs often carrying protective or auspicious meanings. Today, it has been repurposed as a decorative wall piece, complete with sturdy hangers on the reverse, making it an exceptional piece of sculptural art for interior display.
