This magnificent 19th century carved teak window mirror from Maharashtra, India, began life as an architectural window featuring the elegant cusped form of a classic Mughal arch. Carefully repurposed into a striking mirror, it retains its richly hand-carved frame, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship of traditional Indian woodcarvers. The deep relief floral carvings, twisted columns and intricately shaped arch create a dramatic focal point, while the aged patina speaks to more than a century of history.

Traces of the original pitch still cling to the detailed carvings, preserving evidence of the mirror's architectural past and adding authentic character. Rather than being over-restored, the surface has been left with its naturally weathered appearance, highlighting the beauty of the old teak and the remarkable depth of the carving. This one-of-a-kind architectural piece makes an impressive statement in both traditional and contemporary interiors, whether displayed in a hallway, living room or above a console.

Architectural elements such as this are increasingly sought after for their ability to introduce genuine history and craftsmanship into modern interiors. Their original purpose, combined with the individuality of hand carving and centuries of natural ageing, ensures that no two examples are ever exactly alike.
