Carved Teak Peacock Panel €“ most likely from a lintel over a window -19thC

The wonderful, sun- bleached grey colour is completely natural and the depth of the carving is impressive.

Peacocks roam freely in Rajasthan & Gujarat and are a symbol of good luck.

Seen in Northern India carved on the beams over doorways and windows, on masala & tika boxes, betelnut cutters to name but a few examples.

This one comes from Gujarat.
