This antique carved teak Nandi bull figure originates from Andhra Pradesh in Southern India. Nandi, the sacred bull, is known as the loyal gatekeeper and vehicle of Lord Shiva, one of Hinduism’s principal deities. Figures such as this were often created as devotional or symbolic toys, embodying reverence, protection and strength within Indian village life.

Carved from solid teak with a naturally aged patina and traces of old red pigment, this figure has a wonderfully simple and honest charm. Each example was made entirely by hand, giving every piece its own distinct personality — no two are ever the same. A fine decorative object or gift for collectors of Indian folk and tribal art.
