This old Indian lintel panel was salvaged from the entranceway to a building fallen into disrepair in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It would have originally sat atop a doorway and depicts tigers and elephants on either side of a large lotus flower motif.

It is constructed from jackfruit wood (Artocarpus heterophyllus) and carved in a tribal fashion. Jackfruit wood is often used for building construction in South India as is comparable in quality to teak wood. There is a historic patch on the left tiger likely replacing a knot in the original piece of wood.

This particular piece dates from the 19th century and would look fabulous on a wall or above a mantlepiece.

Supplied fitted with wall hangers.
