Teak & Iron Jali Dog Gate From Gujarat - 19th Century

These 19th century Indian dog gates from Gujarat would have been used in front of the main entrance door of Gujarati Havelis to keep animals out. This one is made from teak wood and hand beaten iron crafted in a lattice style. This style is called jali in India and the quality of these gates is particularly high with excellent carving on the crest of the gates. 

They make very interesting & decorative garden gates & are suitable for outdoor use as well as unique pieces of wall art. This particular piece has delicate border carvings and a wonderful rich patina.
