This carved teak wood doll from the Banswara district in Rajasthan has developed a wonderful patina over time. Banswara is widely populated by the Bhil ethnic group, the largest tribal group in India. The Bhil can be found across India and have a distinct style. This is a Gangaur doll given to young Bhil women during the Spring festival of Gangaur which celebrates marital happiness, during which young women pray to Gauri to find a good husband.

The doll is covered with a rich patina indicating many years of repeated use.
