This 19th century carved lintel showcases intricate depictions of elephants and riders, or mahouts, in India. The central carving features a symmetrical design with foliage accents throughout.

The style of carving indicates it to be Gujarati in origin. It would have adorned an old haveli, a home of a merchant.

Its impressive age is evident in the patina and layers of old paint which is still evident in traces. However, age has not dulled the beauty of the precision carving that Indian craftsmen are so famed for.
