Blue Painted Teak Door From Gujarat - 19th Century

These substantial 19th-century teak doors originate from Gujarat in western India and retain a wonderfully distressed blue painted finish. Generations of use have worn away areas of the paint to reveal layers of earlier colour and the natural teak beneath, creating a richly textured surface and distinctive antique patina.

Each door is constructed with a series of raised and moulded panels, with the lower sections particularly finely detailed with carved arched surrounds and scrolling foliate decoration. A pair of traditional metal ring handles sit centrally, while the surviving iron fittings and hardware add further character.

The reverse provides an interesting contrast, retaining extensive traces of an old yellow painted finish and showing the traditional plank construction and iron strengthening straps.
