This intricately hand-carved architectural lintel was salvaged from a building in Gujarat, India, that had fallen into disrepair. Dating from the 19th century, it would have originally been positioned above a doorway. The central pūrṇa-kalaśa (full water vessel) is a welcome inviting prosperity, purity, and divine presence into the home.

The carving features richly detailed foliage and a central motif of elephants€”symbolic of strength and wisdom in Indian tradition€”rendered with remarkable artistry.

Traces of original pigment in earthy reds and verdant greens remain visible on the weathered surface, offering a glimpse into its once-vibrant past.
