This fine Burmese lacquer tea bowl and matching plate were produced in Burma during the early 20th century, created specifically for export to the Chinese market. Executed in rich black lacquer with intricate gilded decoration, the set beautifully reflects the meeting of Burmese craftsmanship and Chinese decorative symbolism.

The exterior of the bowl is adorned with elegant scrolling floral motifs rendered in gold against the deep lacquer ground, while the interior features a finely detailed mythical creature inspired by traditional Chinese iconography. The accompanying plate is centred with a dynamic dragon motif — a powerful symbol of imperial authority, strength and good fortune within Chinese culture — framed by decorative borders and stylised ornamentation.

Crafted using traditional Burmese lacquerware techniques, the pieces display the refined layered lacquer finish for which Burmese artisans became highly regarded during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Both decorative and collectible, the set makes a striking display object and would sit beautifully within a wider collection of Asian lacquerware or export art.
