This antique brass bucket marked “Trishul” reflects the robust utilitarian metalwork traditions of India. Made from heavy-gauge brass, the vessel has a classic tapered form with a rolled rim and a thick swing handle designed for durability and everyday use. Buckets of this type were widely used throughout India for carrying water, ritual washing, or general domestic tasks, and their simple but sturdy construction allowed them to withstand decades of use.
A distinctive feature of this example is the decorative handle lug stamped with the word “TRISHUL” beneath a trident symbol, the trishul being the sacred weapon associated with the Hindu god Shiva. The trident motif is a powerful religious emblem in Hindu culture, representing divine protection and spiritual power. Such marks were sometimes used by manufacturers or suppliers, but the symbol itself also carries strong devotional associations.
The brass has developed a warm, aged patina with gentle wear from years of handling, adding character and authenticity to the piece. Today, objects like this work beautifully as decorative accents and can be repurposed as planters, log buckets, or wastepaper bins while still celebrating the enduring craftsmanship of traditional Indian metalwork.
