Brass Temple Bucket (Marked KM) - Ca 1920

These antique brass buckets would once have contained holy water used in Hindu puja ceremonies, and are sometimes referred to as 'campaign buckets' as they were carried by armies in India during the 19th and early 20th centuries. This example is distinguished by its flared base and the initials KM marked on the handle lug - likely an Indian manufacturer. It also has a Hindi inscription just underneath the rim.

Made from heavy-gauge brass with copper rivets and a solid swing handle, it was designed to endure regular use in ceremonial, domestic, or institutional settings. Its mellow, timeworn patina and simple, robust construction now lend it an understated charm that goes far beyond its utilitarian beginnings.
