This antique brass bound Anglo-Indian military chest dates to the 18th century and is a superb example of campaign furniture. Constructed from solid teak with a deep, time-worn patina, it features its original brass and iron fittings and sturdy side handles. The chest opens to reveal a spacious interior with a fitted candle box, a sturdy chain to prevent strain on the hinges, and a cleverly concealed sliding bottom of the candle box which may have once lead to a secret compartment.

Military chests such as this were made to order for officers of the British Indian Army, designed to carry personal possessions and withstand the rigours of long tours. With visible old repairs to the hinges, this piece bears the marks of its service while retaining both strength and character. Today, its proportions make it perfectly suited for use as a coffee table or a striking storage piece.
