This brass-bound Anglo-Indian military chest dates to the 19th century and is a superb example of campaign furniture made for officers of the British Indian Army. Constructed from beautifully patinated teak, the chest retains its original brass and iron fittings, including strapwork, corner reinforcements, carrying handles, lock escutcheon and latch. The warmth of the timber and the depth of its surface patina reflect decades of use and careful maintenance while travelling between postings.
The interior is thoughtfully arranged, featuring a generous main storage cavity with a removable compartment tray above for organising smaller belongings. Built to withstand the rigours of overland movement and military travel, this chest is both highly durable and visually striking. Its scale also makes it an ideal piece to repurpose as a coffee table or storage feature in a contemporary home.
