This striking military chest is constructed from teak and has the original brass corners and fittings. It also has beautifully carved interior compartments which make it a very individual and special piece.
This interior style places it from Southern India  - 19thC

Made to order by skilled carpenters, these chests were re-enforced with corners of brass or iron. As they had to withstand a lot of punishment in transit, they were exceptionally well made. Normally constructed from teak, rosewood and jackfruit wood.

Anglo-Indian military chests were originally used by officers of the British Indian army to carry their kit and personal possessions whilst on tour.,

Our pieces are mostly from the 19thC and early 20thC
