Hongwu Blue & White Porcelain Wine Jar - Peonies & Lotus

This reproduction Chinese blue & white wine jar is decorated with a rich dark cobalt glaze. It has been hand turned on the potters wheel using traditional techniques handed down from one generation to the next by skilled families of master potters. This darker cobalt shade of blue is often called Hongwu blue, characterised by the cobalt blue pigment containing purplish hues. 

The design is a classical Ming style design and depicts peonies with two lion masks on the body. The peony is considered 'The King of Flowers' in China and symbolises beauty, riches and honour. 

All our reproduction Chinese porcelain is handmade and hand painted in Jingdezhen which has been the capital of Chinese porcelain production since 1004 AD. The famous imperial kilns have been sited there since the Ming dynasty (1368 - 1644 AD).
