    Product Description & Specifications

    Title

This reproduction Chinese blue & white temple jar has been beautifully decorated with an intricate phoenix design. It is hand painted by skilled artists using traditional techniques learned from their family passed down through generations. The Chinese phoenix (fenghuang) symbolises virtue, harmony and prosperity and is said to represent balance, yin and yang. Temple jars are also known as baluster jars.

All our reproduction Chinese porcelain is made in Jingdezhen which has been the capital of Chinese porcelain production since 1004 AD. The famous imperial kilns have been sited there since the Ming dynasty (1368 - 1644 AD).

    References:

This jar bears similarities to two Chinese Late Kangxi period (1662-1722) baluster jars illustrated in 'Complete Collection of Ceramic Art Unearthed in China', Vol. 7 (fig 219 & Vol. 10 (fig 108) by Z Bai. A similar pair also sold at Christies New York, 28th Jan, 2013 for $20,000 USD.
