Carved teak chariot carving of Lord Vishnu dating from the 18th century. Chariot panels originate mostly from Tamil Nadu in South India. These chariots, called Ratha Yatra are decorated with carved teak sacred scenes and images. The chariots are enormous temples on wheels which are drawn through the streets by hundreds of people. Temples depicting an Jagannath (an avatar of Vishnu) are a true splendor to behold and the name gave origin to the English word "Juggernaut." Iron stand and wall hanging included. From India
