This striking bijou dowry chest originates from the Rabari tribe of Kutch, Gujarat, and dates to around 1920. Known locally as a damchiya, this type of chest was traditionally gifted by a bride€™s family as part of her dowry and would have once held prized possessions such as jewellery, silks, and heirlooms.

Crafted from solid teak and finished in its original whitewashed paint, this piece is richly detailed with chip-carved geometric patterns and inset mirrorwork, both symbolic of protection and prosperity. Its compact scale makes it an ideal statement piece for a hallway or bedroom€”full of texture, history, and charm.
