Red Lacquer Oak Altar Table From Zhejiang Province - Late 19thC

This striking red lacquer altar table is from Zhejiang province in South China and dates to the very end of the 19^th century. The front is beautifully carved with hints of the original gilding and beneath the three drawers, a hidden space can be found. 

Altar Tables were always long & narrow in form - a configuration seldom found in antique European furniture.
Woods used are Elm, Red Elm, Walnut & more rarely Cypress & Pear. Our pieces are mostly 19th century & early 20th century.
