This Indian teak planters chair has beautiful brass detailing and is the ultimate chair for sitting back and relaxing with a fresh glass of gin & tonic. The original cane seat has been replaced but that has given it a new lease of life.

The planter's chair is perhaps the most easily identifiable symbol of the British Raj and India's colonial past. Chairs were unusual to find in most of Asia as the majority of people slept, ate, and socialised on the ground.

In order to cope with the extreme heat in India, the British military reclined on raised surfaces. The caned matting added ventilation. By the early 20th century planters' chairs were a staple piece of equipment found in the 'Army & Navy Store catalogue' 1905 - 1910 under 'verandah furniture' used across India.
