This characterful 19th-century door and frame comes from Gujarat, western India, and showcases a wonderfully timeworn patina. Constructed from aged teak, the double-panelled doors retain remnants of ochre-yellow and earthy red paint, giving them a warm, rustic presence. A carved floral panel above the lintel adds a decorative flourish, hinting at the skilled craftsmanship and aesthetic sensibilities of the period. The naturally distressed surface tells its own story€”each layer of fading paint and wear a marker of long use and traditional life.

As with most traditional Indian doors, this one would originally have opened inwards on a pin-and-post system rather than hinges. The frame has since been sensitively adapted for hanging with modern hinges, making it suitable for reuse as a functioning doorway or as an architectural focal point in a contemporary interior.
