This 19th-century painted teak almirah cabinet features beautifully carved sunburst panels influenced by Portuguese design, reflecting the fascinating exchange of artistic ideas between Europe and India during the colonial period. While Portuguese rule was largely concentrated in coastal regions of southern India, decorative motifs and stylistic influences travelled widely through trade networks, and examples like this demonstrate how these European design elements were adopted by craftsmen further north in Gujarat.

The cabinet doors are decorated with deeply carved sunburst rosettes framed by scrolling foliage, with additional geometric panels below. Layers of old turquoise and pale paint have worn gently over time, creating a richly textured patina that highlights the carved details and gives the piece its distinctive character. The cabinet retains its original proportions and traditional iron hardware, further adding to its authenticity.

Inside, the cabinet is fitted with two internal shelves, providing useful storage while maintaining its traditional structure. Decorative yet highly functional, this piece works beautifully as a linen cupboard, hallway cabinet or statement storage piece, bringing both history and colour into an interior.
