This striking 18th-century ceiling panel from Udaipur is a rare example of traditional Indian architectural decoration, combining carved wood, painted surfaces and mica inlay. Once part of an interior ceiling, it reflects the rich decorative heritage of Rajasthan’s historic buildings.
The panel features a central lattice design set with fragments of mica, which would have softly reflected light when originally installed, adding a subtle shimmer to the space. Surrounding this are finely detailed carved borders with repeating floral motifs, while traces of original red paint remain visible, enhancing its depth and character. The aged surface, with its layers of wear and patina, tells the story of centuries of use.
Now mounted with hangers on the reverse, this piece makes a dramatic and textural wall feature, bringing a sense of history and craftsmanship into any interior.
