This antique traditional door from Kerala, South India is defined by its dramatic iron lock. These locks adorn the doors of historical Ettukettu and Nalukettu architecture. The lock has become a "style statement" for modern houses in Kerala and other parts of India where it's known by its traditional name manichitrathazhu.

The shape of the lock is that of a trident or trisul, one of the symbols of Lord Shiva. The door pulls are some of the best we've seen, crafted in a 'snake chain' method they would have originally been flexible. The ironwork is all hand crafted and is a culmination of traditional skills and knowledge which has been passed down through the centuries.

The doors are beautifully carved from the very hardwearing jackfruit wood, a hardwood that is termite proof and resistant to fungus.

Height including stand: 178.5 cm
