This beautifully patinated teak chapati board originates from Rajasthan and dates to the 19th century. Hand-carved from a solid piece of teak, it was traditionally used for rolling chapatis and other everyday food preparation, forming an essential part of domestic life in rural Indian households. Pieces such as this were valued possessions, often passed down through generations, acquiring a rich surface patina through decades of daily use.
The circular form is complemented by a distinctive zig-zag carved border running around the edge, a subtle yet expressive decorative detail that reflects regional craftsmanship. The surface bears gentle wear, natural marks, and tonal variations that speak to its long history, making it a wonderfully authentic decorative object as well as a tangible reminder of traditional Indian domestic culture.
