This carved teak horse-head corbel from 19th century Saurashtra began as a kāṇ bracket in a Kanbi household, where horse motifs were associated with protection and auspicious energy. The arcing profile, forward-leaning head and incised detail show the lively folk carving typical of rural workshops.
The front features a chip-carved kamal (lotus) rosette surrounded by punch marks, circular motifs and geometric borders that animate the surface. Mounted on a simple iron stand, it now reads as a bold sculptural silhouette ideally suited to a console, plinth or shelf. Two similar corbels are available, each priced and sold separately.
