This antique Indian brass casket is from Rajasthan and has a tall gabled lid. It is over 230 years old and has a beautiful patina. The form of this box imitates the typical Rajasthani hut boxes of the 18th and 19th centuries. This style of box draws inspiration from the traditional huts and houses of the Thar desert.
These boxes were used for storing valuables; jewelry, paan, and money. Now, it would be ideally suited as a jewelry box. Coincidentally the style bears similarity with the reliquary boxes of Northern Europe.
