Brass Jewellery Casket From Rajasthan - 18th Century

This antique Indian brass casket is from Rajasthan and has a tall gabled lid. It is over 230 years old and has a beautiful patina. The form of this box imitates the typical Rajasthani hut boxes of the 18^th and 19^th centuries. This style of box draws inspiration from the traditional huts and houses of the Thar desert.

These boxes were used for storing valuables; jewelry, paan, and money. Now, it would be ideally suited as a jewelry box. Coincidentally the style bears similarity with the reliquary boxes of Northern Europe.
