This antique Indian grain measure dates to the 19th century. The design and brass binding is of a south Indian design from Kerala. Grain measures like these were used in markets for measuring wheat, corn, rice, and pulses. In the old days, the Indian measures were Seers & Pattis.
Pieces like this have been used every day, handed down generations by families in India, and developed a rich warm patina.
These make fabulous planters, decorative features, or waste paper bins.
