This 19th-century carved teak balcony bracket from Gujarat depicts a serene attendant figure framed by bold scrolling foliage. Once part of an architectural façade—likely from a haveli or merchant house—the bracket demonstrates the deep, sculptural carving characteristic of Gujarati craftsmanship. The figure stands with hands respectfully clasped, wearing the stylised dress and headdress typical of regional folk depictions.
The side of the bracket features dense floral carving, its rounded forms and layered leafwork adding richness and depth. The wood has weathered to a warm, tactile surface, revealing centuries of exposure and use. Now mounted on a bespoke iron stand, the bracket stands as an elegant sculptural object, bringing the artistry of traditional Gujarati domestic architecture into a contemporary setting.
