6 Door Elm Sideboard From Mongolia

This rustic six-door sideboard is made from old reclaimed elm and cypress, inspired by the long, low grain stores once found in rural northern China. Cabinets of this type were traditionally used to store grain and household goods, particularly in regions such as Mongolia and Shanxi, where practicality and solid construction were essential.

The design is intentionally simple, letting the character of the old wood speak for itself. The surface shows a gentle, timeworn patina, with visible grain, marks, and tonal variation that reflect the timber’s previous life. Discreet iron ring handles add a quiet traditional detail without distracting from the clean, architectural form.

Behind the six outward-opening doors are three separate storage compartments, each with a removable dividing shelf, making the interior easy to adapt for everyday use.
