Orange & White Chinese Porcelain

Filter

Bring warmth and refinement to your interiors with our collection of Orange & White Chinese porcelain, each piece hand-painted in the celebrated copper-red underglaze tradition of Jingdezhen—the porcelain capital of China since the 14th century. This glowing red-on-white palette first appeared during the Yuan dynasty (1279–1368) and was later perfected under the early Ming emperors, becoming one of the most admired and technically demanding porcelain styles in Chinese art.

Our contemporary artisans continue this lineage, painting every vessel by hand using finely ground copper pigment beneath a transparent glaze. The firing process requires extraordinary precision: too hot, and the red fades to grey; too cool, and it turns muddy brown. When successful, the result is a vivid, living orange-red tone that collectors have prized for over six centuries. Whether displayed singly or arranged as a collection, these modern creations honour that same spirit of mastery and beauty.

    The Legacy of Copper-Red Porcelain

During the Yuan dynasty, potters at Jingdezhen developed a revolutionary technique—painting with copper oxide under a clear glaze to produce radiant red designs. This innovation coincided with the rise of blue-and-white porcelain and represented the height of technical ambition in Chinese ceramics. By the Ming dynasty (1368–1644), copper-red porcelain was made for imperial use and exported worldwide. Today, the style is still admired for its difficulty and the subtle tonal variations achieved by skilled artisans.

    Designs & Symbolism

Typical motifs include dragons, phoenixes, peonies, and bats—symbols of strength, renewal, and happiness. Our collection spans temple jars, ginger jars, vases and planters, all crafted to the same exacting standards. Each hand-painted piece carries its own rhythm and warmth, glowing softly against a translucent white body.

    Styling Orange & White Porcelain

Rich yet understated, copper-red porcelain harmonises beautifully with both classic and modern interiors. A large temple jar makes a dramatic centrepiece on a sideboard or console, while smaller vases group elegantly on mantels and shelves. Their soft, glowing tones pair effortlessly with natural wood, marble and linen, bringing timeless colour and quiet luxury to your home.

    Crafted in Jingdezhen

Made in small workshops in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province, each piece is shaped on the wheel, hand-painted, glazed and high-fired in kilns much like those used for imperial porcelain. These are modern creations, but every detail—from brushstroke to glaze—is rooted in centuries of artistry. The result is museum-quality porcelain made accessible for contemporary collectors and interiors alike.
