Reproduction Rosewood Altar Table

This dramatic Chinese altar table is a convincing late 20^th century reproduction of a Ming Dynasty piece. The quality of the carving is excellent and it is made in rosewood in the traditional way. 

Skillfully carved dragons sit at either end and flow into smaller dragons culminate in the center. The end panels are ornately carved giving this ornamental piece yet more character.

Altar tables, also known as 'console tables' would traditionally have an ancestor portrait would hung above the table & joss sticks lit & placed on the table for the well being of the household. They were always long & narrow in form - a configuration seldom found in antique European furniture. This elegant table is ideal for use in a narrow hallway or as a lamp table behind a sofa.
