Art Deco Mirror Made From Old Peranakan Ceramic Tiles

This beautifully carved teak capital from Gujarat dates to the late 19th century and has been thoughtfully converted into a distinctive candlestand. Originally part of an architectural column, the piece features a finely sculpted figure dressed in traditional Indian attire, complete with a moustache and stylised detailing that reflects the craftsmanship of the region.

The surrounding carving incorporates classical scroll motifs and decorative elements typical of Gujarati architectural ornamentation. Over time, the teak has developed a richly textured surface with traces of its original painted finish still visible, lending depth and authenticity to the piece. The top has been adapted with a recessed holder, making it both functional and sculptural.

This unique object works beautifully as a decorative accent on a console or table, bringing a sense of history, character, and artisanal heritage into both traditional and contemporary interiors.
