This old antique South Indian Nandi bull figure was originally the lid of an old tika box from Andhra Pradesh. The Nandi Bull is a symbol of Lord Shiva. Cows are still revered and continue to wander the streets in India.
Tikka ash boxes stored vibhuti, the ash and powder used for marking the forehead of Hindus known as a tikka mark or bindi.
This piece dates to the 19th century and is over 100 years old.
