An excellent example of an old tikka (kumkum) box with a carved teak Nandi bull cover from South India. The Nandi Bull is a symbol of Lord Shiva. Cows are still revered and continue to wander the streets in India.

These carved teak wood tika boxes were used for storing the red powder used for marking the forehead of Hindus known as a tika mark or bindi. This piece dates to the 19th century and is over 100 years old and like many would have had wheels. These have long since been lost. The carving is of excellent quality and similar examples can be found in museums.

A perfect gift for a collector of village art, each one is unique. They look wonderful displayed in a group on a wall or table.
