This Japanese woodblock print of a prancing horse is by the enigmatic Japanese woodblock print artist Wakyosai. Little is known about Wakyosai, but his style is similar to Yoshijiro Urushibara an early 20th century woodblock artist specialising in horses. It is likely Wakyosai was a student of Urushibara or his pseudonym.
There is a beautiful simplicity in Wakyosai's prints. They're a great gift for any horse lover. Similar examples by Wakyosai can be found at The Art Institute Chicago.
Supplied in a simple vintage black frame.
