Chinese Child's Desk From Shanxi - 19th Century

This small side table is repurposed from a 19th century child's desk made from northern Chinese elm (榆木 yumu). Originally from Shanxi province, it's made in the classic style with contemporary lines.

This antique Chinese child's desk boasts a charmingly rustic appearance. This unique item would fit effortlessly into a "shabby chic" style interior. At our Wiltshire workshop, a hole in the top has been expertly patched in the form of a red pepper, echoing the skilled craftsmanship of Chinese carpenters. Traditionally, It is not uncommon to see fruits and vegetables, such as gourds, peaches, and pomegranates, incorporated into the patching of furniture.
