These pretty antique Chinese spring benches used to be seen outside shops and small restaurants in China and were used by both staff and customers to enjoy the fresh air. This one is from Shanxi province and is constructed from elm wood.. It is carved with a beautiful cloud motif and dates to the 19th century.

Please note that the legs of all these benches are splayed.
