This gilt black lacquer Chinese table cabinet was made for the Chinese export market and was made for wealthy members of the British Georgian upper class in the Qing dynasty. This intricate and detailed work was made for export to Britain when Chinoiserie was all the rage in the early 19th century. Black lacquer export sewing kits and games boxes were also made.

These pieces are fragile pieces of history and are usually found damaged. This jewellery cabinet has been checked over in our workshop and small restorations made to stop the aging process. The handles would have originally been ivory and have been replaced with ivory substitute handles. The tops of these cabinets have visible wear from use. This can be seen in the photographs.
