This antique iron bound Chinese grain measure dates to circa 1910 and is called a rice dou. Better quality ones like this one are made from elm wood. It has a beautiful patina from daily use. In the past, grain measures were commonly used in markets to measure rice. Today, it can serve many useful purposes, such as a wastepaper bin or a plant holder.
