This excellent Indian mirror is made from an antique window from the South Indian city of Hyderabad. Dating from the 18th century, the carving is excellent and depicts a classic Mughal influenced mihrab arch with stylised parrots. This style of window is often called a jharokha in India and is especially found in the North West of India. It is made from rosewood that has bleached over time. This bleaching is only seen on rosewood pieces with significant age.

The hints of black pitch (a tar like substance) was used to protect from a previous life adding an extra layer of depth and contrast making the carving stand out further.

A truly striking piece.

Supplied with strong hangers on the reverse.
